Kakariko Village at dusk

Economy

Trade, gift, and transfer items between characters — and use Tokens at the Village Shop.

The Roots Economy

Trade, barter, gifting, and the Village Shop

The Roots of the Wild economy is a trade and barter system built around item-for-item trading between characters, gifting items to other players' characters, and a Village Shop where members sell spare materials for Tokens and spend Tokens on extra supplies.

This guide covers each part of the mechanic and the Discord commands that run them.

Quick reference

  • Community Board/economy trade, /economy transfer, and all shop commands run in #community-board only
  • Gifting/economy gift items in #community-board or town hall; /economy gift token for OOC token transfers in Community Board only
  • Same village — trade and item gifts require both characters in the same current village
  • Different players — trade and gift must be between two different users' characters; use transfer for your own OCs
  • Up to 3 items — trades, gifts, and transfers each support 1–3 item stacks per command
  • Trade ID — starts with T plus a 6-digit code; trades expire after 24 hours
  • Jailed characters — cannot trade, gift, transfer, or use shop buy/sell
  • Peddler restock — every Sunday at midnight Eastern, the Peddler adds 4–8 random items (1–10 each) and posts in Community Board
  • Member leave — when someone leaves the server, their characters' inventory is added to Village Shop stock (dragon parts excluded)

Trade & gifting don'ts

  • Spirit Orbs cannot be traded or gifted.
  • Old Maps (Map #… / Old Map) cannot be gifted or transferred.
  • Dragon parts cannot be sold to the Village Shop.
  • Equipped items — if you only have one copy, you cannot trade, gift, transfer, or sell it until you unequip it with /gear. Extra copies beyond the equipped one can still be moved.

Economy Commands

Where to run each command in Discord

Most economy commands are restricted to #community-board. Item gifting is the exception — it can also be used in a village town hall when both characters are in that village.

/economy trade

Community Board

Exchange 1–3 items between two characters owned by different players in the same village. The initiator posts the first side; the other player completes the trade with the Trade ID and their items. Both players must confirm before items swap.

Discord command

/economy trade

Examples

Start: /economy trade fromcharacter:[you] tocharacter:[them] item1:[item] quantity1:[qty]

Complete: /economy trade fromcharacter:[you] tocharacter:[them] item1:[item] quantity1:[qty] tradeid: T482917

/economy gift items

Community Board or village town hall

Give 1–3 items to another player's character in the same village without a trade. Cannot gift to your own characters — use transfer instead. In town halls, use the channel for the village both characters are currently in.

Discord command

/economy gift items

Examples

/economy gift items fromcharacter:[you] tocharacter:[them] itema:[item] quantitya:[qty]

/economy gift token

Community Board

Send player Tokens from your dashboard balance to another Discord user. This is OOC currency — not character inventory, not rupees, and not tied to a specific OC. Transfers are logged to both users' token history on the Dashboard.

Discord command

/economy gift token

Examples

/economy gift token touser:[@member] amount:[number] note:[optional message]

/economy gift token touser:@Friend amount:50 note:Thanks for the art!

/economy transfer

Community Board

Move 1–3 items between characters you own, regardless of village. Blocked while either character is on an active expedition.

Discord command

/economy transfer

Examples

/economy transfer fromcharacter:[OC A] tocharacter:[OC B] itema:[item] quantitya:[qty]

/economy shop-view

Community Board

View current Village Shop stock in a paginated ephemeral Discord post. Stock can also be browsed on the Tinglebot Dashboard.

Discord command

/economy shop-view

/economy shop-sell

Community Board

Sell items from a character's inventory for Tokens. Characters with the CRAFTING job perk who sell self-made items they can craft earn the Crafter's Bonus (shop buy price instead of the lower sell price). Fortune Teller boosts can further increase sell payouts on eligible crafted goods.

Discord command

/economy shop-sell

Examples

/economy shop-sell charactername:[character] itemname:[item] quantity:[qty]

/economy shop-buy

Community Board

Purchase shop stock using Tokens from your user account balance. Items are delivered to the named character's inventory. Priest token boosts can reduce purchase cost.

Discord command

/economy shop-buy

Examples

/economy shop-buy charactername:[character] itemname:[item] quantity:[qty]

Trading

Starting and completing an item-for-item trade

To start a trade, use /economy trade in #community-board. Fill in fromcharacter (your OC), tocharacter (another player's OC), and at least item1 / quantity1. Optional item2 / item3 slots allow up to three stacks. No Trade ID is needed when starting.

The other player is pinged with a Trade ID. They run /economy trade with tocharacter set to your OC, their side of the items, and the tradeid field filled in. Both players must confirm the trade — the recipient confirms via command, and the initiator can react with ✅ on the trade post or confirm via command as well.

Both characters must be in the same current village, belong to different Discord users, and not be jailed. Pending trades expire after 24 hours.

Gifting

Giving items without a trade

To give items away without expecting anything back, use /economy gift items with fromcharacter, tocharacter, and itema / quantitya at minimum. Optional itemb and itemc allow up to three stacks.

The recipient must be another player's character in the same village as the giver. To move items between your own OCs, use /economy transfer instead.

In town halls, the channel must match the village both characters are in — for example, two characters in Rudania must use Rudania's town hall.

  • Gift tokens/economy gift token in #community-board only
  • touser — pick the Discord member receiving Tokens (not a character name)
  • amount — whole Tokens to send; must be at least 1 and cannot exceed your balance
  • note — optional short message (e.g. courier pay, thanks); shown on the gift embed
  • Cannot gift Tokens to yourself or to bots
  • See the Tokens guide for earning, spending, and checking your balance

Transfer

Moving items between your own characters

Use /economy transfer in #community-board to move 1–3 items between your own characters. Village location does not matter — your Rudania OC can send items to your Inariko OC.

Transfers are blocked while either character is on an active expedition. Jailed characters cannot transfer. Equipped-item rules match trade and gift — you cannot transfer your only equipped copy.

Village Shop

Buying, selling, and where shop stock comes from

The Village Shop is a shared marketplace for all three villages — anyone can buy or sell from the same stock using Tokens. All shop commands run in #community-board.

Member leave stock: When a member leaves the Discord server, the bot transfers each of their characters' inventory into the Village Shop before cleanup. Quantities are merged into existing listings or added as new shop entries so items are not lost. Dragon parts are excluded and are not added to shop stock. The same transfer runs when a character is deleted or lost to Blight — their gear returns to the shop for others to buy.

Peddler weekly restock: Every Sunday at midnight Eastern, the NPC Peddler restocks the shop with 4–8 randomly chosen items. Each picked item receives 1–10 stock. Eligible items depend on village levels (higher village levels allow rarer picks). Custom weapons, Old Maps, and dragon parts are never Peddler stock. A restock embed is posted to #community-board announcing what arrived that week.

Use /economy shop-view for a paginated ephemeral listing in Discord, or browse on the Tinglebot Dashboard.

Use /economy shop-sell to exchange inventory items for Tokens added to your user account. The Crafter's Bonus applies when a character with the CRAFTING perk sells a self-made item (crafted, brewed, workshop-made, etc.) that their job can produce — those stacks sell at the shop's buy price instead of the standard sell price.

Use /economy shop-buy to purchase listed stock. Tokens are deducted from your account balance and items are added to the named character's inventory.

  • Dragon parts — cannot be sold to the shop manually, and are not added when a leaver's inventory is transferred
  • Jailed characters — cannot buy or sell (shop-view is also blocked while any of your characters are jailed)
  • Token balance/tokens check for current total; full history on your Dashboard profile
