Getting Started
Read and follow these steps when you first join the server.
1.Welcome and Rule Agreement
- 1.1
Welcome to Roots of the Wild.
- 1.2
Before participating, all members must carefully read the rules in 🔔》rules.
- 1.3
Click the triforce reaction emoji at the bottom of the rules post to confirm you have read and agree to follow them. This grants access to additional server channels.
- 1.4
By joining, you agree to follow all current server rules and any future updates made by staff.
2.Starter Channels
- 2.1
After agreeing to the rules, members may access 🔔》intro and must post an introduction using the pinned template. Mods will react with ✅ or 🚫 to show whether it was completed correctly.
- 2.2
After your first OC is accepted, edit your intro post to include your character application link or links.
- 2.3
Questions about the group, lore, or character creation should be asked in 🔔》faqs.
- 2.4
General conversation and casual chat may take place in 💬》gossip-stone.
Community Standards
How we treat each other, roleplay boundaries, heavy topics, and contacting staff.
3.Age Requirement and NSFW Content
- 3.1
Roots of the Wild is an 18+ group. Anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted to join.
- 3.2
NSFW content is only allowed in the following channels. All other channels must remain work friendly.
- 🎨》nsfw
- 💬》nsfw-boinkcanons
- ✨》tingles-nsfw-land
- 3.3
Do not post explicit, suggestive, or sexual content involving underage characters or characters who appear to be underage — including suggestive art, written descriptions, roleplay, jokes, or implications.
- 3.4
This includes child-coded characters such as Kokiri and Koroks. Even if they are immortal or ageless in lore, they are still treated as minors under this rule.
4.Respect and Conduct
- 4.1
Follow general internet etiquette and respect all members of the server.
- 4.2
Do not discriminate, harass, bully, troll, target other members, or misgender other members or their OCs.
- 4.3
Swearing is allowed, but slurs are not tolerated. Avoid derogatory terms, including but not limited to:
- Jap
- Gypsy
- Eskimo
- 4.4
Staff may remove messages, issue warnings, mute, or ban members who create an unsafe or hostile environment.
5.Stressful and Heavy Topics
- 5.1
Keep discussion of stressful topics to a minimum. Occasional venting is understandable, but many members use the server as an escape from real-life stress.
- 5.2
Heavy real-world topics may be deleted or redirected by staff. If staff or another member asks for a topic to stop, drop the subject and move on.
6.Roleplay Etiquette
- 6.1
Do not godmod — taking control of another OC’s actions without the player’s permission, including assuming how they would act in canon, non-canon, or hypothetical scenarios.
- 6.2
Do not metagame — giving your OC knowledge they should not have.
Example: Your OC knows another OC’s backstory without meeting them or getting permission from the player.
- 6.3
Always respect other players’ boundaries, character agency, and consent.
7.Contacting Staff
- 7.1
Do not message the personal accounts of mods about server issues. Staff will handle concerns as fairly as possible — please use the proper contact channels:
- 🔔》faqs — general questions or concerns
- @Roots.Admin — serious issues (briefly explain the situation)
- @Ruu 🍥 // Aemu and Crew — if you need anonymity
Membership & Content
Art requirements, activity expectations, and the member cap.
8.Art and AI Art
- 8.1
Art theft is not tolerated. Do not trace, steal, repost, edit, or use another person’s artwork without permission or proper credit. This applies to applications, character profiles, roleplay, selling, and general server use.
- 8.2
AI art may not be used for applications or character profiles. AI-generated images may only be shared for inspiration.
- 8.3
Full body application art must be drawn by you or commissioned from an artist.
9.Member Cap and Activity
- 9.1
Roots of the Wild has a 60 member cap. New members have 2 weeks from joining to draw their OC, submit their application, and have it approved (including any requested fixes). If not completed in time, you may be removed — this is not a ban, and you may reapply when applications are open.
- 9.2
Activity checks are held every 3 months. To remain in the group, show meaningful activity during the check period — chatting, roleplaying, drawing, working on character content, participating in mechanics, or similar.
- 9.3
Members who fail 3 consecutive activity checks may be removed to free space for active players. Removed members in good standing are welcome to rejoin when applications are open.
Discord & Voice Chat
Privacy, profiles, Discord TOS, and voice channel conduct.
10.Personal Information
- 10.1
Do not share personal information about other members — including names, genders they do not use online, locations, state, province, or other identifying details. Respect member privacy at all times.
11.Usernames, Avatars, and Profiles
- 11.1
No inappropriate usernames, avatars, statuses, or display names. Staff may rename, warn, kick, or ban members at their discretion.
- 11.2
Your server nickname must follow this format — your nickname first, then 1–2 OCs you use most:
Your Nickname | OC Name(s)
12.Discord Terms of Service
- 12.1
All members must follow Discord’s Terms of Service (https://discordapp.com/terms). Violating Discord TOS may result in removal from the server.
13.Voice Chat Conduct
- 13.1
All server rules apply in voice chat. Think before you speak, and report VC issues or rule-breaking to @Mods ✨.
- 13.2
VC may be closed at any time by staff.
14.Streaming and Media in VC
- 14.1
Do not stream content that includes blacklisted triggers. If linking Twitch, YouTube, or other media that contains a listed trigger, include the relevant trigger number.
- 14.2
No jumpscare sounds or soundboards.
- 14.3
Mute yourself if you have heavy background noise or do not need to speak.
- 14.4
Only use a VC’s linked text channel for related chat, links, or images.
Triggers & Sensitive Topics
The trigger blacklist, grey list, and safe phrase.
15.Trigger Blacklist
- 15.1
Roots of the Wild maintains a public trigger blacklist of member-submitted topics. By joining, you agree to be mindful and respectful of the trigger list.
- 15.2
Blacklisted topics must not be mentioned, referenced, alluded to, shown in images, or discussed in voice chat anywhere in the server — including text, images, roleplay, worldbuilding, prompts, quests, and media discussion.
- 15.3
Message @Roots.Admin to request something be added. The list is for serious triggers only, not personal dislikes — and staff may not be able to accommodate every request due to the group’s setting.
16.Safe Phrase
- 16.1
Roots of the Wild uses the safe phrase:
"WindFish says no"
- 16.2
When this phrase is posted, all members must immediately stop the current conversation — no questions, arguments, or jokes — and move on to a different subject.
- 16.3
Willful or repeated disregard for the trigger list or safe phrase will result in a ban.
17.What Counts as a Trigger
- 17.1
A trigger significantly affects a person’s emotional state — such as extreme overwhelm, panic attacks, PTSD responses, or trauma-related distress.
- 17.2
The trigger list exists to protect members from re-exposure to harmful content. It is not for minor discomforts, dislikes, or topics someone simply does not enjoy.
18.Trigger #1: Car Wrecks and Accidents
- 18.1
Do not mention the following — anything beyond a simple mention of safely driving a car is prohibited. Applies to all real and fictional instances.
- Reckless driving
- Drunk driving or driving while impaired
- Vehicle wrecks or accidents, real or fictional
19.Trigger #2: The 45th President of the United States
- 19.1
Do not mention, discuss, reference, or share images relating to Donald Trump. Applies to all real and fictional instances.
20.Trigger #3: Vore and Being Swallowed
- 20.1
Do not post or create content involving characters being eaten, swallowed, or consumed — especially in fiction (writing, art, prompts, roleplay, and worldbuilding):
- Explicit descriptions of eating, swallowing, or consumption
- Detailed references to being inside a stomach or another being’s body
- Imagery of a character inside a mouth, being swallowed, or inside a body
- Panic, fear, or distress while being consumed
- Events, quests, prompts, or scenarios where characters are eaten or swallowed
- Fantasy, monster, or worldbuilding centered on consuming whole characters
- Shrinking or size manipulation that could imply or lead to being eaten
- Visual mid-swallow depictions, even without graphic detail
- Stomach interior imagery under any circumstances
- 20.2
Allowed without a trigger tag:
- Casual jokes such as “I’ll eat you” or similar non-literal expressions
- Non-graphic, vague mentions without detail (e.g. “My character got eaten.”)
- Creatures with visible teeth or open mouths in normal contexts
- References where the consumed subject is already deceased, with no imagery
- Heavily text-warned discussions without images
- 20.3
Visual depictions remain prohibited even if warnings are present.
22.Grey Listed Topics
- 22.1
Grey listed topics are heavy or distressing and should generally not be discussed. Roots of the Wild aims to keep the environment safe and relaxing for everyone.
- 22.2
Grey listed topics include:
- Suicide
- Cancer
- Terrorism
- Real-world politics
- Holocaust
- Mass shootings
- Rape or sexual assault
- Animal abuse, harm, or death
- Rabies, both in world and real life
- 22.3
Please do your part to keep Roots a safe escape from real-world stress by avoiding grey listed topics and other heavy real-world topics.
23.Animal Harm and Hunting
- 23.1
Do not discuss real-world animal abuse or death. You may mention that a pet passed away, but keep it vague and avoid traumatic details.
- 23.2
Descriptions of OC hunting must stay vague — no injuries, gore, suffering, or graphic details.
Acceptable: “Hunter shot the deer with an arrow and took it down.” Acceptable post-hunt: “Hunter skinned the deer and prepared the meat.”
24.Grey List Enforcement
- 24.1
Members will not usually be warned for simply mentioning grey listed topics unless the mention is graphic.
- 24.2
Staff may ask members to stop or delete messages about grey listed topics. Continuing after being asked may result in a warning.
- 24.3
Members may always use the safe phrase “WindFish says no” to stop a conversation that is triggering or crossing a boundary.
Enforcement & Staff
Strike system, warnings, bans, and staff policy.
25.Strike System
- 25.1
Roots of the Wild uses a 4-strike system:
- 1st strike — Bot warning and 1 hour mute
- 2nd strike — Bot warning and 24 hour mute
- 3rd strike — Bot warning and 1 week mute
- 4th strike — Ban from the server
26.Warnings and Disciplinary Action
- 26.1
Rule breaking will result in an official warning. Further rule breaking may lead to disciplinary action depending on severity — including mute, removal, or ban. Staff may skip steps in severe cases.
27.Immediate Ban Offenses
- 27.1
The following will result in an immediate ban:
- Posting explicit content of underage characters or characters who appear underage
- Harassment or bullying of other members
- Intentional disregard for the trigger blacklist
- Intentional disregard for the safe phrase
28.Staff Rights
- 28.1
The Roots of the Wild mod team reserves the right to update or change rules as needed. If rules are updated, staff will make a public announcement. Members are responsible for reviewing updates when posted.

Where should I ask questions about the group or rules?
Post in 🔔》faqs for general questions or concerns. For serious issues, contact @Roots.Admin (briefly explain the situation). Do not message mods' personal accounts about server issues.
Can I use AI-generated art for my application?
No. AI art may not be used for applications or character profiles. Full body application art must be drawn by you or commissioned from an artist. AI-generated images may only be shared for inspiration.
Can my OC be related to existing Zelda characters?
No — not in any meaningful or direct way. Roots is set roughly 1,000 years after Breath of the Wild. The Triforce bearers and their legends have faded so completely that Hyrule's people do not even remember their names. Your OC cannot be a child, descendant, reincarnation, or close relative of Link, Zelda, Ganon, or other canon characters. At most, a very distant ancestral tie may be possible if it does not grant special status, plot armor, or recognizable connections — and even that should be kept vague.
Can I play as Link, Zelda, or other canon characters?
No. Roots is member-created OC roleplay — you play your own original character, not established Zelda characters. You are not the Chosen One; you are one person trying to survive in a harsh world.
Can my OC be a race not listed on the Races page?
No. Only the playable races on the Races page may be used. Custom, hybrid, or homebrew races are not accepted. The only recognized mixed heritage is Hylian/Sheikah, and only when the character identifies as such rather than picking one culture over the other.
Can my OC hold the Triforce or be a reincarnated hero?
No. The endless reincarnation of the Triforce bearers ended long ago — that cycle is over in this setting. OCs cannot wield the Triforce, be its chosen hero, or carry plot-central divine destinies tied to BOTW/TOTK canon.
Can my OC use Sheikah technology, Guardians, or Shrines?
No. A millennium has passed since BOTW — Sheikah technology, Guardians, and Shrines are completely unheard of in this era. Your OC would not have access to or knowledge of that ancient tech.
Does my OC have to live in one of the three villages?
How old can my OC be?
The maximum age for any OC is 300 years, regardless of race. Long-lived races may note an apparent age on their application, but they still cannot exceed this cap.
Can I have more than one OC?
Yes. Every member starts with two character slots. Additional slots can be earned through events, referrals, tokens, and other methods outlined in the OC Guide. Your first accepted character is your main OC.
Can I control another player's OC or decide what their character does?
No. Godmodding — taking control of another OC's actions without permission — is not allowed. Always get consent before involving another player's character in your scenes, and do not assume how they would act.
Can NPCs be added to Tinglebot?
No. NPCs are not added to the bot. They must be attached to an accepted PC, approved through the NPC application process, and kept within NPC rules. If your character needs full stats, travel, or mechanics access, they are a PC and need a full application.
Can my OC know another OC's backstory without meeting them?
No — that is metagaming. Your OC should only know what they have learned in-character through roleplay or what is reasonably public knowledge. Do not use information from another player's app or posts your character has not earned in play.
Can Kokiri or Korok OCs be treated as adults for NSFW or mature content?
No. Kokiri and Koroks are child-coded characters. Even though they are immortal or ageless in lore, they are treated as minors under group rules. Do not post explicit, suggestive, or sexual content involving them.
