Job Perk: Salvaging

Active job perk for Craftsmen — break monster gear and salvageable items into materials with /salvaging in Town Hall.

What Is Salvaging?

Dismantle monster gear into craft materials

Salvaging is an active Job Perk for Roots of the Wild. Some gear — especially monster weapons and shields — cannot be used as-is, but a skilled Craftsman can break them down into ores, wood, monster parts, and similar materials.

Salvaging is the opposite of crafting: you spend an item and stamina to recover ingredients. It runs on Discord with /salvagingnot on the dashboard and not through /crafting recipe. Crafting boosts do not apply.

Jobs with this perk

  • Craftsman

Quick reference

  • Job: Craftsman only — SALVAGING perk (or active Craftsman job voucher; mod OCs with ALL perk roles can also pass the job check)
  • Discord: /salvaging in the correct village Town Hall (currentVillage, or voucher job's village when village-exclusive) — not a dashboard feature
  • Direction: Salvageable item inmaterials out (opposite of /crafting recipe)
  • Autocomplete: Item list shows only salvageable catalog items you own in inventory
  • Stamina: Per item × quantity; partial salvage uses all available stamina up to full cost and scales material yields down
  • Items always consumed: Full quantity is removed even on a partial salvage — only material yield is reduced
  • No crafting boosts: Scholar stamina saves, material refunds, Entertainer quantity boosts, etc. do not apply
  • Job voucher cap: Voucher salvages limited to staminaToSalvage ≤ 5 per item (> 5 blocked; mod OCs exempt)
  • Result embed: Ephemeral confirmation to you, then a public salvage embed in the channel

What Salvaging Does

Break gear down into reusable materials

Salvaging covers monster weapons and shields, plus a small amount of armor — any catalog item with salvaging: true and defined salvagingMaterial outputs. Most crafted goods, food, and elixirs are not salvageable.

  • Crafting (/crafting recipe) — materials in, finished item out; many jobs can craft
  • Salvaging (/salvaging) — item in, materials out; Craftsman only
  • Brewing (/crafting brew) — Witch elixirs; separate from both crafting and salvaging
  • Each salvageable item has a fixed stamina cost per item (staminaToSalvage) and up to three material output rows in the catalog
  • At full stamina, yields are predictable — no random gambling on material amounts
  • Examples (full stamina)1 Lynel Sword2 Goron Ore, 1 Eldin Ore (4 stamina) · 1 Boko Bat2 Wood (2 stamina) — exact costs and yields come from the item catalog / autocomplete

Salvaging Command

Discord · Town Hall

  1. 1Confirm your OC is a Craftsman (or on an active Craftsman job voucher)
  2. 2Go to the Town Hall channel for your character's current village (if your voucher job is village-exclusive, that job's home village Town Hall is used instead)
  3. 3Run /salvaging and pick character, item, and quantity from autocomplete
  4. 4Confirm you own enough copies and have stamina for at least a partial yield (or full cost for full materials)
  5. 5The bot removes items, deducts stamina, adds materials, and posts the result embed

Salvage an Item

Break down a salvageable item you own into materials. Must be run in your character's village Town Hall.

Discord command

/salvaging charactername:[your OC] itemname:[item] quantity:[≥1]

  • characternameYour Craftsman OC (or voucher Craftsman) — autocomplete only
  • itemnameSalvageable item you own — autocomplete shows stamina cost and owned quantity
  • quantityHow many copies to break down (minimum 1); stamina and outputs scale with quantity
  • Bot checks job perk, Town Hall channel, jail/debuff, ownership, and stamina (in that order after character lookup)
  • Removes the full quantity of items, deducts stamina (up to full cost), adds materials
  • Sends you an ephemeral success line, then posts a public salvage embed via followUp
  • Active job voucher deactivates after a finished salvage — unless you already have Craftsman as your permanent job (skipVoucher)

Before You Salvage

Craftsman status, channel, and inventory

  • JobCraftsman with SALVAGING perk (CRAFTING / SALVAGING in job data), active Craftsman job voucher, or another job whose perk list includes SALVAGING or ALL
  • Channel/salvaging only in the matching village Town Hall — your currentVillage channel, or the voucher job's required village channel when the voucher job is village-exclusive
  • InventorySalvageable item in personal inventory with enough quantity; items are removed before stamina is deducted
  • StaminaAt least 1 stamina required; 0 stamina blocks salvaging entirely
  • StatusNot debuffed, not jailed
  • Not salvageableItems without salvaging: true / material outputs, or items you do not own, are rejected

What Can Be Salvaged

Catalog flag · owned items only

The full list lives in the item database. Autocomplete only shows items your character owns that are flagged salvageable — you do not need to memorize every recipe.

  • Monster weapons and shields looted from enemies are the main use case
  • Some armor entries may also be salvageable when defined in the catalog
  • Food, elixirs, and most player-crafted goods are generally not on the salvage list
  • Job vouchers hide items costing more than 5 stamina per salvage in autocomplete (unless mod OC)
  • If every material would round down to 0 at your current stamina, the bot blocks the action and shows the minimum stamina needed

Salvaging destroys the source item permanently. Confirm you do not need the gear for display, trade, or equipment before breaking it down.

Stamina & Partial Salvage

Full quantity consumed · yield scales with stamina used

  • Full coststaminaToSalvage × quantity — bot uses up to that much from your current pool
  • Full salvageWhen stamina ≥ full cost, you receive the listed material amounts × quantity
  • Partial salvageWhen stamina < full cost, bot uses all available stamina and scales each material by stamina used ÷ full cost, rounded down per material
  • Items still consumedYou always lose the full quantity of items chosen — only material yield is reduced
  • Example (Boko Bat, 2 stamina → 2 Wood)1 stamina used → 1 Wood recovered; item still consumed
  • Blocked partialIf scaled yields would all be 0, salvage fails with the minimum stamina needed to recover anything
  • Rest, meals, and elixirs help recover stamina — but crafting boosts do not reduce salvage stamina cost

Craftsman Job Vouchers

Temporary salvaging for non-Craftsmen

  • A Craftsman Job Voucher lets a non-Craftsman OC salvage while the voucher is active
  • Vouchers for other jobs (Blacksmith, Cook, Witch, etc.) do not grant salvaging
  • Stamina capVoucher salvages only items with staminaToSalvage ≤ 5 per item (> 5 is blocked) — higher-cost items need a real Craftsman job
  • Mod OCs bypass the voucher stamina cap and may pass voucher validation without a voucher item
  • Town Hall channel rules still apply (effective village for voucher-exclusive jobs)
  • Voucher deactivates after a successful salvage — not if embed generation fails (refund path) and not when skipVoucher applies because you already have Craftsman permanently
  • Wait out jobVoucherActivating if the bot says activation is still in progress

Salvaging vs Other Crafter Commands

Three different workshop flows

Salvaging is intentionally separate from crafting and brewing — different command, different perk, no shared boost logic.

Changing Jobs

Lose SALVAGING when you leave Craftsman

  • A Craftsman who leaves the Craftsman job loses the SALVAGING perk immediately
  • They can no longer run /salvaging until they are Craftsman again (or use a voucher)
  • Items already in inventory are unchanged — you simply cannot break them down without the perk

Common Problems & Fixes

When salvaging fails or yields look wrong

Command not found or autocomplete is empty

Confirm your OC is a Craftsman (or on a Craftsman voucher) and that you own salvageable items.

Wrong channel / Town Hall restriction

Use /salvaging in your character's village Town Hall, not the community board or marketplace.

Item not in autocomplete

You may not own it, it may not be salvageable, or a voucher may hide items costing >5 stamina per salvage.

Not enough stamina for full salvage

You can partially salvage — materials scale with stamina used. Rest or recover stamina for full yield.

Stamina too low for any materials

The bot shows the minimum stamina needed for a partial yield. 0 stamina blocks salvaging entirely.

Blacksmith / Cook / Witch cannot salvage

By design — only Craftsman has salvaging. Switch jobs, use a Craftsman voucher, or trade with a Craftsman player.

Expected crafting boost to help

Salvaging is separate from crafting boosts. Scholar saves and similar perks do not apply.

Voucher blocks high-stamina item

Job vouchers can only salvage items costing 5 stamina or less per item. Use a real Craftsman job for higher-cost gear.

Debuff or jail message

Wait until the debuff ends or jail time is cleared, then try again.

Salvaging failed due to insufficient stamina (item refunded)

The bot removes items before deducting stamina. If stamina deduction fails after that, the item is refunded — try again once stamina is stable.

Error after salvage — worried about inventory

On embed failure the bot refunds items, materials, and stamina. If something still looks wrong, contact mods.
